Elise AbrahamGreat Job. Now we should work on Composite material for the picnic tables, suggest a fund raiser, or is that too bold of an idea?

Staff in the Spotlight- Elizabeth “Beth” Brewster 1. What is your role in Pasco County? I am a 5th grade teacher at DPES. This is my 8th year of teaching and I am one teacher in a Trio who specialize in our area of expertise. I teach Science and Social Studies this year. I am also the Stem Fair co-oridinator for our school. I love real world science. I’m really fortunate to be a part of Project Lead the Way this year with my students learning about Robotics. 2. What do you love about your job? I love when my students get really involved in what we are learning. I get really excited when learning something that I get to share with my students. One of the things I love the most about my job is the team I teach with. They are supportive, encouraging, and knowledgeable individuals who collectively are outstanding. Together we achieve more than I ever did in my first 6 years of teaching before being partnered with these amazing individuals. 3. Who or what inspires you? Both people and nature inspire me. When I am Kayaking, hiking, or anywhere that is outdoors and see something new, I photograph it, and then find a way to bring it into the classroom. If it is something I can physically bring to my classroom then that is what I do. Because if it moves me or makes me think, then what is it going to do for my students? People also inspire me. They might share something they know or have done that makes me want to do what they are doing. 4. Tell us something unique that people may not know about you. I have 3 unique things that not everyone knows. I learned to ride a motorcycle 4 years ago and ride my own 883 Harley Davidson to school on nice days. I lived on a 100 acre farm back in Ohio where I raised beef cattle and grew hay, corn, oats, and wheat back in the 1980’s. Finally, 4 days after I became a grandmother for the first time, I was picked from the audience at a Tampa Bay Lightning game to receive the jersey off the back of the then Captain Vinny Lecavalier. I made the front page of the sports section of the Tampa Bay Times Newspaper for my 15 minutes of fame when he kissed my cheek as he gave me his jersey. Life is good when you work hard and remember all the great things you have in life, especially children and memories. The person who nominated Ms. Brewster wanted to thank her for going above and beyond and making a difference in her son’s life.
